I noticed that it has been quite few years since I posted my last blog. You see a lot has happened in those years.
Well my son met his High School sweetheart again after not hearing from each other in 12 years. They instantly hit it off got married and her two children( Elisha who is now 11 and James who is now 7) made him an instant dad and Fay and I instant grandparents and then my youngest daughter and husband started their family. Carson just turned 5 and Aubree is 2. Until last year we watched all of our grandchildren. We now watch mostly the two youngest but James would move in with us if we let him.
I also in the last 4 years picked up to small wonderful United Methodist Churches over in Beech Creek and Greenville , Ky.
Time for blogging is not readily available like it was.
So you see time flies by when your having fun which is exactly what is happening in our lives now.
God is GREAT all the time and I am truly blessed.
Oh and one more thing ( As Detective Columbo always says) I love what I do .

WOMI , Chicago White Sox and Edith Bennett
This blog is going to be different, unique ,sad and happy.
It has been 13 months since I last blogged. To be truthful I am not the blogger I thought I was or would be.
Here goes, WOMI, Chicago White Sox , Edith Bennett, , things I remember from my childhood. In the early 60's we were not blessed with Pandora Radio , Internet Radio or several stations in town like they have now. Fact is I can only name 4 of them right now and they have all changed since I was a kid. WVJS,WOMI. WSTO , WBKR. In actuality WBKR was WOMI FM. There wasn't talk radio so you got to listen to music , you know on those hand held tiny transistor radios that ran on batteries. A lot of our music we listened to were album LP's. My brother Barry and I had such different tastes. He was into Chicago,Elton John,Santana,to name a few while I like Marty Robbins,Jimmy Dean and Roy Rogers. The radio though was what we listened to outside or if one of playing albums on the record player as we called them. What does all this have to do with WOMI, they broadcast the Chicago White Sox games and I would always tune in when the Yankees played.I can even remember taking my small transistor radio to my sister's dance recital just to listen to the Sox and Yankees. Now for $20.00 you can hear the audio of every team every game on your smart phone or computer , or for 25.00 a month you can watch all games not broadcast by ESPN Sunday night and Fox.You can watch it 45 minutes after the game ends if you want. Teams I can't watch are Reds and Cardinals like I would want to watch them to start with because of blackout restrictions. There you have two parts of the blog today. WOMI which broadcasted the White Sox games.
This brings me to Edith Bennett, she worked at WOMI and was part of the Miss Joanna radio show. You could be on the show in person as a kid or have your name called and get a gold star or something like that. Edith worked at WOMI longer than I have been alive. (55 years old), she did Sunday morning programing. She will be remembered for working at WOMI and her Chapel on the Air as she called he time slot.
Edith and I go back 55 years , you see her brother Wendell Rone was the pastor that married my mom and dad.(1940) and my mom and dad was close to Wendell . The old saying goes ,she has known me since I was knee high to a grasshopper. What I remember about Edith was all the History she knew , I was once a member of Daviess County Historical Society with Edith. She helped me with my family genealogy in school oh how I wish I had kept that report. She played the piano and sang, When I held a revival at Livermore Wesleyan Church she came and played the piano for me. ( The church didn't have a pianist ) . I remember her for the love of photography, she thought that she had a photograph of every church in this area. When her slr film camera quit working they got her a digital point and shoot and she learned to use it though she would had preferred one with a view finder to look through but she never complained. We talked a lot at Third Baptist Church ,I would stop by and check on her and we shared prayer requests , and asked if she had this book her brother had written and if she didn't I would give it to her or we discussed the shape of the church world.
This past Fall she bought a new NKJV Life Application bible and signed it and put her favorite scripture in it. Though I have several bibles this became my favorite right away because it came from Edith.
One year I asked Edith if she could transfer an old cassette tape of my wife's of when her family , when she growing up used to sing in church ,for a Mother's Day gift . She made me not one but two copies.
She was also planning on transferring several cassette tapes of my preaching to CD but because of the poor audio recording she didn't get to it because it would require sitting there for such tasks as turning volume up or down.
Edith was a gem, a.priceless diamond. Edith was called home this past Friday and I am going to miss her very much . Edith was like an Aunt to me, after all she knew me all my life.

Glen
Almost eleven years ago I met Glen Snyder. We were visiting Calvary Wesleyan Church and met Glen and Darlene Snyder. They were friendly people and you could say it helped in our decision to attend there . I later became Glen and Darlene's assistant pastor for 8 1/2 years.
Glen loved to talk about his three boys Brian ,Jeff and Joey and his daughter-in-laws and his grand children, Glen was Big Poppy to his grandchildren.
He supported Jeff in his singing career often taking trips to hear whatever group Jeff was singing with and just had a big smile when he talked about him and if you ever rode with Glen I can guarantee that he had whatever group Jeff was singing with their latest cd.
He was there in support for Brian (who also at one time sang)in his photography.( Snyder Photography)He was very proud of Brian and his multiple talents. You could always count on Glen to have photographs of his grandchildren.
He was supported of Joey, who is in the ministry as a youth pastor .
Glen loved to talk about his boys, but he had a gigantic heart for those grandchildren. He and Darlene brought them to church on several occasions. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was always taking them places.
Glen will be missed but he left behind a legacy of love and Godly values for his family to follow.

Have You Counted Your Blessings
Every day I count my blessings that God has given me.I have a loving wife who spends a lot of her time taking care of me now that I have health problems.
In the past 3 1/2 years my health has changed dramatically ,There are times when I get Gout which is very painful,I also have a neurological problem that causes severe headaches and numbness on my face.I suffer from high blood pressure that at times runs dangerously high even though I am on 3 meds for it.I have severe Asthma and a degenerative disk disease in my back with 2 bulging disks and arthritis in my back and knees. When my health which at times drives me nuttier than I am already,( like Friday when I was on my feet most of the day) and since then my back has been hurting. It hurt all weekend.Today I awoke and my finger tips are numb, bottom of both feet are numb and I have sharp pain in my lower back, now a few years ago this would had made me depressed but I realize that there are people who are suffering worse than I am.It is that numbness in my feet that drives me crazy. Then God reminds me that there are families who are separated from their loved ones due to illness and some who have lost loved ones.
I consider myself blessed with good health even with all my physical problems.I am surrounded by my family and have a God who understands my physical problems. He allows me to suffer so that I can witness to those who also are suffering. He allows me to learn and teach through my own experiences.
I count my blessings every day even during the hard times as well as the good times.

What My Church Denomination Has Taught Me
I am a member of the Wesleyan Denomination, for those who do not know it is a Christian denomination in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Namibia, Asia and Australia., who's religious beliefs are evangelical, holiness . The church is part of the holiness movement and has roots in the teachings of John Wesley. The church is Wesleyan and Arminian in doctrine.
In the past two years I have been taught that they expect the congregation to be a good steward of God's money and live on a budget while the Denomination Leaders,District leaders, and local church and leaders(not all leaders) do not.
I spent several years in business as a manager, owner of my own business and pastor of a small church and during this time I had to read a profit and loss statement and if it wasn't in the budget you didn't purchase it, or build it.
Some churches( not my current church) have done away with van ministry because it is not profitable,it costs money to run the van and the church says that those people do not help pay for the church and then they turn around and purchase or build a new church building even if they don't have a budget for it and expect the congregation to make up the differences with challenges to pay more than 10 % tithes or building pledges by saying God deserves better or people with good income who never come to know Christ because they never here a sermon about sin so they wont be offended and leave with their money.
Yesterday our Denomination's district voted to merge with another district in our denomination because by doing so it wold move them up a few spots in the statistical department in attendance, church income and total churches .They are two districts who are very weak and all they did were to combine two weak districts without solving the problem as to why they are weak. Yes we gained in numbers in attendance but that is not the solution. The solution is winning more to Christ, then teach them about tithing, and witnessing.
It seems the denomination has lost it's focus,it is seems to be concerned about attendance numbers, and income and are willing to over look being a steward of God's money in which the congregation has tithed to the local church ,and winning souls to Christ to filling a church up to pay for a building it can't afford than winning souls to Christ. This does not mean that we don't keep our present churches up or if we out grow them not to build, but it means that we are to be good stewards of all God gives us.
It seems to be a thing now to change the name of churches ,we drop the word church,or Wesleyan from them because we almost don't want anyone to know what we stand for.Instead of preaching about sin and the consequences of it, we teach and preach feel good sermons and mention very little or any at all about sin so we won't offend anyone (you know those worship attendance numbers that pay for a church you can't afford). This happens in other denominations also, not just ours.I am only talking about my denomination today.
It is not the name church or Wesleyan that needs to be dropped it is the legalistic and liberal preaching that needs to be dropped. Do we need an encouraging sermon?Yes, but not every Sunday, sometimes you need to here about sin and what happens if you do not come to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and legalistic preaching will not win someone to Christ either,it is not a sin to listen to contemporary Christian music,or wear jeans to church or let the youth go bowling together or read from the NIV or NKJV or some other bible translation, this type of preaching is as dangerous as not preaching about sin.
The Bible tells us to be a good steward of what God gives us. Jesus went to the tax collectors and had dinner with them, drank from the well with a woman who was living in sin came upon the rich ruler or the thief on the cross. He could had just gave them a feel good sermon and used their money or friendship,or not told the thief the truth to support His ministry but he was obligated to tell them the truth .Some came to know him and others walked away.

Remembrance
On Sunday Sept.11th it will be 10 years since the tragic day of the nation coming under attack by terrorists. The first plane that hit the twin towers then another and then the Pentagon and then the plane that went down in a field after the passengers overtook the terrorists. As we remember those that died that day (2,975)let us remember also the 7,468 U.S. and coalition troops have lost their lives since that day.
Terrorist attacks and conflicts have trickle down effects ,wives and husbands become widowers, children grow up without both parents, military personnel become disabled physically and mentally.A lot have a hard time of adjusting to normal life when returning and some will be called names.
This is not the first time the U.S. has been attacked and innocent lives have been lost.Pearl Harbor(2,403)military and civilians died that day and approximately 1,282 were wounded. This drew the United States into WW II which the United States lost 416,800 military deaths 1,700 civilians.
The price of freedom always comes with a price.
The Korean War(53,686) and Vietnam conflict (58,209)WW I (116,708)
The 9/11 attack brought critique on our President , our national security( because of rumors days ahead of an impending attack ).The 9/11 terrorist attack should not be forgotten. It should be remembered in the same breath as Pearl Harbor and other tragedies (Oklahoma City )..etc.
The United States the most diversified country in the world on race and religion needs to remember the freedom they have are because of those so willing to give even in the tragedies in other countries(some our enemies).Let us always take time to remember the lives that have been affected by tragedies through out history.

God has given me a talented family.
Let start off by saying that my family is very talented and that talent is from God.My wife down to my youngest has a talent.
Let start with my wife Fay.She is a published writer ,having been published in Ideals magazine, she has written other things such as a children's story for Christmas and poems. She also a talented seamstress and crochets scarfs that she sells ,she refinishes furniture, and is a great cook(limited only by her picky eating husband) and is a very talented photographer with a great eye for detail. It is her photography that I just can't get enough of seeing.(except her home made fudge) Such a great eye for detail and subject.Just love her images.
Then there is my son Robert,he can do just about anything ,work on cars new or old, drywall, electrical work but he excels at horse training and being a dad.He is fantastic at training horses and riding horses and he got this talent from God because he has not had a single lesson on riding or training horses. It's the dad part I want to talk about. He will be getting married in the coming months and will be adopting her children who absolutely love him. This something that I think he learned from his dad but more important, it is a talent God has given him as he has always been good with children.
Wow, then there is Rachel, she is also very talented.Animals just love her,she knows a lot about how to care for them, she would make a great Veterinarian Assistant if given the chance, she is pretty good at taking care of swimming pools .Our house came with one and we knew nothing about taking care of a pool but she is top notch at taking care of pools now,she can tell you what you need to do to it.She is also like her brother and is fantastic with children. She has been taking care of Ian since he was just a few months old.She is so good she is in demand from other people to watch their children. She is so dedicated at what she does,no matter if it is caring for animals, swimming pools or children she can do it and this is all from God
Then there is Natalie ,she is very talented .Natalie's full time job is difficult and demanding as she works with physically and mentally challenged clients, she is very good at her job and it's rewards for doing her job are not always shown. She enjoys singing and has been singing since she was at a young age.She loves to sing in church and Natalie and Michael (her husband) also sing together in church. She has not had one voice lesson in her life but she get's her singing talent from her mother's side of the family. It is her photography that I love, like her mother she is very good at details and subject matter. She just recently has started her own photography business,Natalie Bristow Photography.
